Critically Acclaimed Artist, BETH AMES SWARTZ, Wed, Jan 25 at 6:30PM at Lon’s at the Hermosa

“Beth Ames Swartz paints from the soul and speaks to its joyous embodiment. The work is of a vision beyond seeing and moves with unheard sound. The lucid brilliance of eyes-closed night journeys are chronicled with the power of close-to-the-eyes intimacy. Her radiant images breathe life into the form of our own remembrances” -James Turrell

Beth Ames Swartz will treat guests to a sneak peek of her new one-woman show opening in NYC at ACA Galleries later this year.  Receiving ongoing praise from internationally renowned art critics for her work spanning more than five decades, Lon’s is honored to have her as the featured guest of honor this evening as part of the Artist in Residence dinner series.

Swartz has had more than 70 one-person exhibitions across the country. In the past three years alone, she has had exhibits in Los Angeles and New York City, and has collaborated with Master of Fine Arts poets at Arizona State University. Her work can be found in many public collections such as those at the National Museum of American Art (Smithsonian Institute), the Jewish Museum, New York, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, and the Brooklyn Museum in New York. She received the Governor’s Individual Artist Award in 2001.

A scholar and philosopher who became an artist, Swartz regularly explores varying themes and mediums including paper, canvas, collage, acrylic and water. Debuting in the ‘70s with small acrylic abstractions reminiscent of Georgia O’Keeffe, her work began to grown in size as her range of media expanded. She has long believed art has a spiritual role in society. She embeds words and symbols in her paintings from sources such as the I Ching and poems by William Butler Yeats to honor differences among cultures.

Guests will have the opportunity to meet Beth Ames Swartz during the wine reception. Swartz will then join guests in Lon’s private library for a four-course dinner paired with hand-selected wines. After, a salon-style evening will follow where Swartz will discuss her art and upcoming show in NYC and answer questions. Her work will be on display during the dinner.

Early reservations are recommended and can be made by calling LON’s at the hermosa at 602-955-7878. The cost is $125 per person (includes tax and gratuity) http://www.hermosainn.com/az/events-calendar/swartz-artist-in-residence.shtml
